There's a saying. "Inspiration is for amateurs, professionals show up for work". Well, after our workshop here I was tired an felt uninspired. I tried to paint the landscape and struggled. It really takes the wind out of my sails. I said to myself to get out to the studio, show up for work. So I did. The goal was to do just that. I painted from images on my computer and made sure there was a figure in there. Here are the results. I would still like to be more "David Park-esque" or " Elmer Bischoff-esque" . But at least I showed up for work.

These are nice! I think you are usually more David Park or Elmer Bishoff just naturally! These are a little more flat...like cut out of construction paper. Still love them though. Good comments too, as I'm preparing for a solo show in November.
ReplyDeletewowowowo.... these are absolutely gorgeous. and this is what you do when you're uninspired... girl you are realllly good.
ReplyDeleteDo you know how many people wish they were more Peggi-esque. Love these and love you!
ReplyDeleteFairfield Porter comes to mind.
ReplyDeleteJust stunning! Peggi-esque is best!!
ReplyDeleteYou always see the figure form under the clothing. I need to practice that more. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOh Peggi! These are just delicious! Love every one of them!
ReplyDeleteYou are in their league Peggi. Especially when you are working in oils. Unbelievable! David Park and Elmer Bischoff are some of my favourites too!! But I've not got this far, I've only recently started in oils again, after working on my drawing skills for a year using Nicolaides' book. I've read Hawthorne, Hensche and Henri, and am using my oils to do them, you and some of my favourite painters proud, but I've a long way to go still. If you wish here's some of my drawings 2b4b.wordpress.com. Thanks for your beautiful work!
ReplyDeletethese paintings are so beautiful. such contrast and energy!
ReplyDeleteYour blog is wonderful, whenever I can I come here.

Thank you for telling your story about "showing up". Your paintings definately have the Fairfield Porter quality of "airiness" and simplicity. And like his work yours also feels very authentic.I would rather have these on my walls to look at everyday than so many slap dash show offs out there who miss the essence.
